Summer Reading

I have two books (including a copy of the archive I made for my thesis) in the new Summer Reading show at Capricious Space in Williamsburg opening next Saturday the 16th. Its an absolutely gorgeous space and there are so many wonderful books in the show. I'll be at the opening so see you there!

I am in a group drawing show opening this weekend entitled RETURN TO SENDER at KRETS gallery in Malmö. The opening is this Saturday from 1-4pm. The show consists of drawings on tiny sheets of paper that the gallery sent out to a bunch of artists earlier this year. Its a really nice space and I hear from my cool friends that they are doing a lot of awesome stuff (shows, workshops, etc). You should check it out if you are in the Malmö/Copenhagen area.

Also.. I am going to be having a solo photography show there in October! It is as of yet unnamed but once everything is set I'll post something here. I'm not sure if I'm coming out yet for it, but I miss Sweden and will try my hardest to make it there.

Back in the 1950s and 60s my grandparents owned a small grocery store in Houston. My sister found these awhile ago packed away in a drawer in their house. They are from a collection of about two dozen cards that came in bulk Jolly Rancher boxes of that era. All of them have these crazy inspirational messages and beautiful type.

I haven't gotten around to saying this since I've been so busy, but I wanted to thank everyone who came to my show two weeks ago. I appreciate all the support more than I am able to say. 1. Soon I am going to completely redo this website and set up a more straightforward portfolio site. Don't worry though, the archives will still be accessible through a link (instead of being the main page). Also.. I've been working on this half-size portfolio book/zine/greatest hits sort of thing to apply for grants and jobs. When I put the new site up I'll have it available free for download fully formatted so people can print it out themselves if they want (and if they have a duplex printer).

2. I'm going to be in San Francisco for the entire month of June. If anyone would like to say 'hi' or lead me to some good food, temporary jobs, grants I should apply for, etc, email me! :)

The opening for my senior thesis show is this upcoming Tuesday from 6-8pm.
It is in the 2nd floor lobby of the Cooper Union, 7 East 7th Street.
You can get there by taking the NRW train to 8th Street or the 6 to Astor Place.

It sort of works the same way as a sketchbook or those pieces of art that one would find at the recent Documenta, New Museum, and Whitney shows of collected images and objects pinned on a wall or structure. However, instead of creating an aesthetic array of images on a single plane, I am going to put them one on top of the other one-a-day until my thesis show and display it on the wall as such. In the end it will just be this thick jumble of all different sorts of papers and photographs; impossible to see at once, but still physically substantial enough to stand in for the mass of ideas and images.

Its only the third day since I've started this so all its not much yet--but it has a good foundation, so I'm not worried.

For those of you who read this via RSS I updated my site! It may not be very linear or obvious where I updated (or maybe it is) but theres a lot of new works up.

Also, I'll be taking a little break in updating. Most of the recent posts have been because my last month has been devoted to digitally archiving things (more on that later)..
