Medium Rare

A few nights ago I made dinner with Milano Chow and she showed me all the awesome books she has been putting out on her new small press
Medium Rare.

Not only are the books handsome and well-made, but they are inexpensive and in very limited editions. Pictured above is all of them in an array, a spread from one of
Eric Marth's photo zines, and Milano holding the Lucas Soi poster. My favorite (not pictured but on her site) is
Jaakko Pallasvuo and
Julia Selin's
Megaverse & Other Stories. Its a 60-page collection of beautiful ink drawings and short stories, perfect bound with a glossy wrap-around cover--and only $13! Such a gorgeous book.
Also.. not to get personal but I helped her take the photos of the books for the site. Seriously though--all the stuff there is really worth checking out.

As if I weren't spread out over the Internet so far already, I've recently been invited to join the amazing cat blog
Gato Poder! If you love cats as much or even half as much as I do, its worth making a visit/adding it to your RSS.

Laurie Anderson

Last night I saw
Laurie & Friends at BAM. At two hours with no intermission and some parts feeling like some weird middle school talent show.. it wasn't overall the best performance night I'd seen. However, I was totally floored by Laurie Anderson's performance. The second she walked on the stage her presence was felt. And between her singing, monologues tempered by a voice changer, and personal asides RE: the plane that crash landed in the Hudson last week--it was absolutely amazing.
I would post more photos here but there is a veritable Laurie Anderson Appreciation Day already going on at my
Tumblr.

More updates

When I put
Paperheart up a few days ago I sort of did it in a rush--but now I'm finally done. There's a whole second/secret/archive section now and a few projects on the main page have been reorganized and re-documented including my thesis project (seen in the .gif above)!
That .gif is an excerpt of 60-odd spreads of a book I made entitled
Imperfect Archives, an attempt to organize into a single volume every image I made during my four years of college. A big thanks to Emily for patiently helping me with these photos.

New site

I finally made a new layout for Paperheart. Its been over a year now--not since the fall of 2007! Most of everything is up but working on getting all that archive-stuff back up. Soon..
Okay. Time to go to sleep.

Joan Didion #2
"We are not idealized wild things.
We are imperfect mortal beings, aware of that mortality even as we push it away, failed by our very complication, so wired that when we mourn our losses we also mourn, for better or for worse, ourselves. As we were. As we are no longer. As we will one day not be at all.”

Leftover

A sketchbook page leftover from last year--maybe from September? October?
In other news I'm working on a zine that is going to be put out later (but early) this year on my friend Milano's new small press
Medium Rare. Its going to be called
Open Windows, Open Doors and will actually be half writing and half imagery.
Happy New Year!
