Five Minutes

1. "What a sad and sham game is played by those who speak of a supremely cunning Master, in order to present the image of themselves as rigorous, incorruptible and 'pessimist' thinkers."

Wow it looks like it worked really well. Are you going to write about the conversations? If someone only stayed 42 seconds does he hate you or was he in a hurry?

good question emily. the way its shown online took awhile to work out and im still not sure if i need to give more.

the whole project for me was duration. the last day, where there is one photo, i sat alone for nearly 4 hours waiting. when i show the work in real life i think it will be 5 A2 posters (one for each day) kind of like contact sheets with the same format of the date/name and time on the website.. but my waiting will become more obvious by the white space of the picture. for instance, 9 people talked to me the first day, so it will be a 3x3 grid.. and all the others follow the same format but in the days not as full, the white space will glare out at the viewer.

i just updated the pages so it says the number of hours i waited under the date. maybe this will help.

the thing i got the most out of this project was a firmer grasp on human generosity, it was so wonderful talking to these people and finding out all sort of things. really being led and seeing what happened. one guy sat with me for 25 minutes because he felt so bad seeing me sit alone for hours on end. another girl brought me a croissant the day after our talk. such intensely nice gestures. i wanted to make the portraits light and white to relect this purity almost, these gifts people gave to me.. and at the same time, all that white representing the time i gave but no one took. for as many people that came to me, i saw dozens pass by looking intentionally the other way.. and i was even denied a few times if i got up the nerve to ask a passerby for their time. most of these people came to me completely on their free will, and that is so beautiful.

what an interesting project.
all the photos are so raw, much like the rest of your work.
well done.
